The main head of research and development of Audi, Wolfgang Dürheimer said that the German manufacturer plans to introduce a new SUV model based on the Q7, which is supposed to be bigger and more luxurious. The new model will be called Q8, and Audi hopes that this move will produce a sales success similar to succses achieved by rival BMW X6.
Audi Q8, such as next-generation Q7, will be based on Volkswagen’s MLB platform, which will be shared with other larger models in the group, as well as future versions of the Volkswagen Phaeton and Touareg. The body of 2015 Audi Q8 should be made up of 60% steel and 40% of light materials (such as aluminum and carbon fiber), which would lead to lower fuel consumption and improved dynamics. The future Q8 will display an Allroad-plus theme with more rugged make-up, a higher-roof stance and an outdoor-focused appeal.
Although it will be based on a model Q7 it will not keep the four-cylinder engine from its predecessor. If we take into account the position of the market targeted by Audi Q8, it is expected that this model will be powered by V6 and V8 engines. In this case, the most probable candidates among the petrol models will be 3.0-liter V6 and 4.0-liter turbo-filled V8 engines, and the diesel 3.0 liter turbo-filled V6 engine. Power would be transmitted to all four wheels through eight-speed automatic or seven-speed gearbox with double clutch.

Update (may 4th, 2013)
We had the opportunity to meet with Crosslane Coupe Concept at the Paris Motor Show last year. However, the photo below is very interesting.
This is how the new Q8 might look like, according to digital artist Garrett Bradford. As you can see, the 2015 Audi Q8 could look like a luxury coupe, higher than A8, with the same level of sophistication and utility.
